About the Role

Our client, a leading provider of agricultural water management solutions, is seeking a skilled Irrigation Systems Engineer to join their team in **East London, Eastern Cape**. This role involves the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of advanced irrigation systems for commercial farms and agricultural projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background, coupled with a deep understanding of hydraulics, soil science, and modern irrigation technologies. You will play a crucial role in helping farmers optimize water usage, improve crop yields, and enhance the sustainability of their operations in the **Eastern Cape** region. This is a hands‑on engineering position with significant client interaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design efficient and cost‑effective irrigation systems (e.g., drip, sprinkler, pivot) tailored to specific crop requirements and site conditions.
• Prepare detailed design plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates for irrigation projects.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of irrigation systems, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for new irrigation projects.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with existing irrigation systems, providing timely repair and maintenance solutions.
• Conduct performance testing and optimization of installed irrigation systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in irrigation.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of agricultural irrigation systems.
• Proficiency in hydraulic calculations, system design software (e.g., AutoCAD, irrigation design software), and water resource management principles.
• Strong understanding of soil‑water‑plant relationships and crop water requirements.
• Experience with various irrigation technologies, including drip irrigation, center pivots, and sub‑surface systems.
• Knowledge of pumps, filtration systems, and water control components.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and technical teams.
• Familiarity with South African water regulations and agricultural practices is an advantage.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites.
