Job description

At 1983, every night feels like the best kind of reunion. This American restaurant in the heart of South Tampa is more than a place to eat — it's a neighborhood social hub where elevated comfort food, craft cocktails, and interactive games bring people together over brunch, family dinner, or a spontaneous night out on the patio. We're looking for an Assistant General Manager who feels just as at home hosting a lively bar crowd as they do leading a Sunday brunch rush, and who believes great hospitality is really about creating connection — one table, one game, one round at a time.

The Opportunity

As Assistant General Manager, you'll be the right hand to the GM and a primary leader in your own right. You'll run shifts independently, develop and coach your team, and own key areas of the operation all while building the skills and track record to grow into a GM role within the Three Oaks Hospitality family.

What You’ll Do
Shift leadership
  • Open and close the venue independently, ensuring all checklists and standards are met
  • Lead pre-shift meetings, assign sections, and brief staff on specials and priorities
  • Serve as manager on duty during high-volume service, maintaining floor presence
  • Make real-time decisions on staffing, pacing, and service flow
  • Step in as acting GM in the absence of the General Manager
Team Development
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding FOH and bar staff
  • Lead training programs for new hires on service standards, menu knowledge, and culture
  • Provide in-the-moment coaching and feedback during every shift
  • Assist with scheduling to balance labor cost, coverage, and team wellbeing
  • Identify high-potential team members and flag them for growth opportunities
Guest Experience
  • Be a visible, warm presence in the dining room and at the bar throughout service
  • Handle guest complaints promptly, professionally, and with genuine empathy
  • Build rapport with regulars and create memorable touchpoints for first-time guests
  • Monitor table turns, wait times, and reservation flow for a seamless experience
Food, Beverage & Kitchen Operations
  • Conduct line checks before each service to verify prep, portioning, and presentation
  • Monitor ticket times and expedite communication between FOH and BOH
  • Assist with beverage inventory counts, variance tracking, and ordering
  • Ensure bar setup, cocktail execution, and speed-of-service standards are met each shift
  • Enforce food safety, allergy protocols, and health code compliance at all times
  • Support menu training rollouts and educate staff on new dishes and cocktails
Financial Awareness
  • Assist the GM with daily sales reporting, cash handling, and tip reconciliation
  • Monitor labor on shift and make adjustments to stay within target
  • Support cost-control initiatives across food, beverage, and supplies
  • Identify opportunities to drive check averages through upselling and suggestive selling
Safety & compliance
  • Uphold health department and OSHA standards during every shift
  • Complete opening and closing safety checklists with accuracy and accountability
  • Document and report incidents, injuries, or violations to the GM immediately
  • Flag equipment issues and coordinate with GM for timely maintenance
Events & Private Dining
  • Execute private events, buyouts, and large-party reservations with precision
  • Review BEOs in advance and brief the team on event details and expectations
  • Coordinate room setup, staffing assignments, and service flow for each event
  • Serve as on-site lead for events when the GM is not present
What You Bring
  • 3+ years in a supervisory or management role in full-service, high-volume hospitality
  • Confidence leading a team independently on high-volume shifts
  • Strong working knowledge of FOH operations and bar service
  • Genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences
