Job description

Overview

LMI is seeking an Agile Coach / Trainer Level IV level to strengthen Agile delivery practices and Atlassian tool proficiency across Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) teams and a geographically distributed workforce. This role blends team assessment, practical coaching, interactive instruction, and sustainable adoption strategies to help organizations use Agile methods and Jira more effectively.

The Agile Coach / Trainer will assess current team practices, lead instructor‑led and virtual workshops, and coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, delivery teams, and managers through changes in planning, backlog management, ceremonies, flow, and reporting. Working with instructional designers and analysts, the coach will tailor instruction and follow‑up support to demonstrated readiness rather than assume a one‑size‑fits‑all curriculum. This is not a classroom‑only position. Success requires observing actual team behaviour, helping teams remove practical barriers, reinforcing skills after training, and building communities that can sustain improvement independently. The ideal candidate can balance common enterprise standards with respect for different team missions and operating contexts. LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial‑grade platforms and mission‑ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed. Leveraging our mission‑ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors—helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct Agile maturity, Jira Cloud proficiency, and team‑readiness interviews, workshops, and observations.
  • Deliver engaging instructor‑led and virtual training on Agile fundamentals for: Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Jira and Confluence Cloud users.
  • Coach teams on backlogs, ceremonies, prioritisation, flow, metrics, and standardised Jira work management.
  • Adapt coaching to assessed team needs; provide office hours and post‑training reinforcement.
  • Facilitate Agile communities of practice and champions sessions; gather feedback and improve reusable guidance.
  • Partner with instructional designers and analysts to align training paths with assessment results and adoption measures.
  • Re‑assess Agile maturity and Jira Cloud utilisation through structured interviews, team observation, facilitated workshops, and evidence‑based coaching plans.
  • Tailor role‑based coaching for Scrum Masters, Product Owners, team leads, and portfolio stakeholders, with actionable follow‑up goals and clear ownership.
  • Demonstrate working Jira boards, epics, stories, sprint and Kanban configurations, dashboards, and reporting approaches during hands‑on learning sessions.
  • Measure coaching effectiveness through behaviour changes, self‑assessments, training feedback, and changes in team practices rather than attendance alone.
  • Create reusable facilitation guides and coach‑the‑coach material that enable local champions to reinforce skills after formal instruction.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, organisational development, business administration, information systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant Agile delivery, coaching, training, or transformation experience, including at least 3 years of Agile coaching or instruction.
  • One of the following or equivalent credentials: International Consortium for Agile (ICAgile) Certified Professional in Agile Coaching or Authorised Instructor Credential, Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), Certified Scrum Trainer (CST), Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Practice Consultant (SPC) or Release Train Engineer (RTE).
  • Hands‑on Jira Cloud proficiency and practical mastery of Scrum and Agile team practices.
  • Strong virtual facilitation, coaching, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a favourable Public Trust determination and satisfy applicable federal personnel vetting, security, privacy, accessibility, and data‑handling requirements.
  • Ability to adapt Agile instruction to adult learners with varied technical experience and to facilitate constructive conversations with sceptical / change resistant / change‑fatigued teams.
  • Experience defining practical measures of team maturity, coaching progress, and adoption with supporting evidence.

  • Experience establishing Agile communities of practice and scaled coaching models.
  • Jira Align, Jira Cloud, Confluence Cloud, or public‑sector technology transformation experience.
  • Experience measuring Agile maturity and training effectiveness.
  • Experience connecting scaled portfolio practices with team‑level execution and Jira/Jira Align reporting expectations.
  • A master's degree in organisational development, adult learning, instructional technology, or industrial‑organisational psychology is desirable.
