Job summary

Smith+Nephew invites applications for an Agentic AI Intern to join the Software Engineering team in Andover, MA for a 12-week program starting May 2027. You will design and prototype AI agents, work with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and tool integration.

You will collaborate with managers, complete internship projects, build apps using AI, evaluate outputs, follow software practices, and present conclusions to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with managers and mentors to complete specifically identified internship projects.
• Design, develop, and prototype AI agents and agentic workflows for software engineering use cases.
• Build applications and services using Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Explore technologies such as RAG, tool/function calling, agent memory, multi-agent workflows, MCP, and human-in-the-loop interactions.
• Develop integrations between AI agents and engineering systems, APIs, and knowledge sources.
• Develop automated methods to evaluate the accuracy, reliability, and quality of AI-agent outputs.
• Apply good software engineering practices including source control, code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and secure development.
• Document technical designs, experiments, results, and key learnings.
• Present project conclusions to senior leadership.
