Hours/Shift: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
*This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week pursuant to Remote Work Pilot Program.

About the Role

The General Counsel Division at DCWP seeks an attorney to serve as a Staff Counsel in the Legal Counsel Unit. The unit provides legal advice, supports new laws, advises on licensing issues, and drafts contracts and agreements.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct legal research related to new and existing laws and regulations.
  • Assist with implementing new and amended laws, including drafting rules, charges, checklists, and penalty schedules.
  • Research and address legal issues arising from licensing, collections, and enforcement work.
  • Draft memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with other assignments within the General Counsel Division, which may include drafting contracts.
  • Occasionally bring charges against businesses at OATH or draft denial/revocation letters, negotiate settlement agreements for civil penalties and consumer restitution.
  • Manage case projects and operational tasks related to consumer/licensee issues and DCWP operations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited U.S. law school or admission to the New York State Bar.
  • New York City residency not required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical, problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
  • Proficient in legal research, factual investigations, document review, witness interviews and depositions.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Comfort with data‑driven analysis and strategic planning.
  • Ability to interact effectively with multi‑functional teams of attorneys and non‑attorneys.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
  • References that confirm legal skills.
