Job description

Senior Commercial & Agricultural Relationship Manager

Location: Willamette Valley, Oregon — Albany-area office presence preferred

Opportunity Overview

A well-established Oregon community bank is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial & Agricultural Relationship Manager to help lead growth in an important Willamette Valley market.

This is a production-oriented opportunity for a banker who wants meaningful autonomy, direct access to decision-makers, and the ability to build relationships across a broad geographic market.

The successful candidate will inherit existing relationships while taking responsibility for generating new loans, deposits, and full banking relationships. The organization has lending capacity, an established presence in the market, and a long-term commitment to commercial and agricultural banking.

This is particularly attractive for a lender who enjoys operating independently but wants experienced credit and agricultural resources available when needed.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

  • Established community banking platform with meaningful lending capacity
  • Long-term commitment to agricultural banking through multiple economic cycles
  • Broad territory across Oregon's Willamette Valley
  • Opportunity to build both agricultural and traditional commercial relationships
  • Direct access to senior credit leadership
  • Experienced agricultural lending mentorship
  • Existing portfolio and relationships to build upon
  • Credit analyst support available
  • Flexible, relationship-driven working environment
  • Some work-from-home flexibility while maintaining meaningful market and office presence
  • Culture that places significant value on employees and family responsibilities
  • Opportunity to make a visible impact on the growth of an important market

Responsibilities

  • Develop new commercial and agricultural banking relationships throughout the Willamette Valley
  • Generate quality loan and deposit growth
  • Manage and expand existing client relationships
  • Develop full banking relationships rather than transactional loan opportunities
  • Prospect actively within the local business and agricultural communities
  • Build relationships with centers of influence and referral partners
  • Structure, analyze, and present commercial and agricultural credit opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with credit analysts and senior credit leadership
  • Maintain strong portfolio quality and proactive relationship management
  • Identify commercial real estate, C&I, agricultural, and related lending opportunities
  • Represent the bank actively within the community
  • Help strengthen the organization's presence in the local commercial and agricultural market

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Established commercial, agricultural, or business banking experience
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new business
  • Agricultural lending experience strongly preferred
  • Willamette Valley market knowledge highly valued
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and credit fundamentals
  • Ability to structure and analyze commercial credit opportunities
  • Comfortable operating independently
  • Strong relationship-development and prospecting skills
  • Experience generating both loans and deposits
  • Community-oriented approach to banking
  • Collaborative and low-ego working style
  • Interest in building a market rather than simply maintaining an existing portfolio

A proven commercial lender without extensive agricultural experience may also be considered if they possess strong production capabilities, solid credit fundamentals, local market knowledge, and a genuine interest in developing agricultural expertise.

Preferred Business Characteristics

The organization is particularly interested in candidates with experience financing:

  • Agricultural operating businesses
  • Grass seed and specialty crop operations
  • Hazelnut producers
  • Row-crop operations
  • Commercial real estate
  • Owner-operated businesses
  • C&I relationships
  • Businesses requiring both credit and deposit solutions

The successful candidate does not need to arrive with a portable portfolio. Existing relationships and market connectivity are valuable, but demonstrated ability to originate new business is more important.

Initial expectations are focused on consistent, sustainable portfolio growth rather than unrealistic first-year production requirements.

Not a Fit If You

  • Prefer portfolio management over new business development
  • Do not enjoy prospecting and community engagement
  • Want to spend most of your time inside the branch
  • Depend entirely on others to understand the credit behind your deals
  • Prefer transactional lending over relationship banking
  • Have little interest in deposit gathering
  • Require significant day-to-day management
  • Want a fully remote position
  • Are uncomfortable operating with meaningful individual accountability

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive and evaluated based on the candidate's experience, production history, agricultural expertise, market relationships, credit capabilities, and overall fit.

The organization recognizes that experienced commercial and agricultural lenders are in high demand and is prepared to evaluate compensation based on the caliber and experience of the individual.

The overall package includes competitive benefits and a retirement program designed to reward long-term employment.
