Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA is seeking an Afterschool Youth Development Leader for a seasonal, part-time role aligned with the school year. Shifts are Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–6:30 PM at elementary schools in the Austin area, with weekends off and a free YMCA membership.

You will create a safe, engaging environment for children ages 4–12, leading activities that promote social-emotional growth, academic support, and joyful afternoons.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Availability to work Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
• At least 1 year of experience in camps, childcare programs, or similar environments preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork abilities.
• Growth mindset, team player, and effective communication.
• Commitment to inclusivity, belonging, and customer-focused service.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage youth in activities that promote learning, creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
• Supervise groups to ensure safety and positive participation in line with YMCA policies and Texas Childcare standards.
• Foster social-emotional development through modeling positive behavior and YMCA core values.
• Create an inclusive, welcoming environment where participants feel valued and supported.
• Follow curriculum and adapt activities to meet participants' needs.
• Communicate with children, families, and staff; provide updates and address concerns.
• Manage snack time with sanitation and safety standards; handle administrative tasks as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings to improve program quality and effectiveness.
• Be a positive ambassador of the YMCA’s mission and values.
