Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast NC is seeking a Youth Development Professional to plan, implement, and supervise activities in a specified program area. The role reports to the Unit Director and supports safety, program quality, and positive youth development during part-time hours.

Responsibilities include coordinating services, leading activities, maintaining attendance records, and building strong relationships with youth, families, staff, and volunteers.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old and have a High School diploma or GED.
• Experience with school-aged youth and knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to plan, instruct, coach, and guide educational activities.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and email.
• Strong communication with youth, parents, staff, volunteers and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment that facilitates youth development outcomes and encourages program participation.
• Coordinate assigned program services and cooperative learning activities for youth.
• Lead and monitor programs to ensure safety, quality, and inclusive environments.
• Set up and clean up materials daily.
• Supervise members and maintain a safe, positive atmosphere.
• Provide positive behavior guidance and role modeling to members.
• Maintain attendance records, progress, and reports; prepare periodic activity or grant reports.
• Cultivate positive relationships with members, parents, guardians, staff and volunteers.
• Ensure equipment safety and proper use; post safety precautions where needed.
• Perform daily janitorial/maintenance duties to keep the Club space clean and safe.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Youth Development Professional

Reports to: Unit Director

Status: Part Time (<30 hrs per week)

Position Overview

Reporting to the Unit Director,the Youth Development Professional (YDP) will plan, implement, facilitate, and supervise activities and events in a specific program area. Research, test and model a variety of innovative, exciting new programs in specific core areas that meet the diverse interests and needs of members, their parents and the community. Interface with volunteers assigned to specific programs to ensure proper application. Promote safety of members, quality of programs and appearance of the Club at all times.

Program Functions

• Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes; promote and stimulate program participation; provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  
• Coordinates assigned program services and cooperative learning activities for youth that are both fun and instructional.
• Effectively lead and monitor a variety of programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality of programs, gender and cultural diversity.
• Responsible for daily set-up and clean-up of all materials used during the program.
• Supervise members in program area. Position yourself in program area to continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members. Focus on maintaining a safe, positive atmosphere for all youth.
• Provide positive behavior guidance that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all members. Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
• Maintains accurate program attendance records, progress in curriculum, and any member conduct or other issues and submits them in a timely manner. Prepare periodic activity reports and/or grant reports.
• Cultivates positive relationship with members, their parents and/or guardians, supervisor, staff, and volunteers by communicating effectively.
• Ensures equipment is in good condition, with safety precautions posted (where needed) and members are instructed in proper and safe use of equipment.
• Perform daily duties that ensure the Club space is properly maintained, organized, clean and safe.
• Assess facility needs and perform janitorial/maintenance duties, i.e., mopping, cleaning tables, trash removal, etc.

Skills/Knowledge Required

• Minimum of 18 years of age; High School diploma or GED required; experience working directly with school aged youth and knowledge of youth development.
• Knowledge of program planning/instruction, implementation and assessment; provide instruction, direction, coaching and guidance.
• Develop, implement and direct educational based activities for children of various ages and learning styles.
• Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office, email.
• Ability to effectively communicate with youth, parents, staff, volunteers and community partners while displaying tact, maturity and flexibility.
• Experience in tutoring and mentoring children or youth.
• Work ethic to be responsible, accountable, provide follow up, complete tasks, and meet deadlines in a professional manner with accuracy and on schedule; regular and predictable attendance.
• Must have the ability to be active and on your feet for a minimum of five hours each day, adapt to changes in a highly energetic work environment, complete other essential functions of the position and other duties as assigned.
• Aptitude to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. Respond according to procedures for emergency, safety and disciplinary situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This is largely a sedentary role. However, it may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. No personal protective equipment is required. Travel to club sites is required, as well as some outdoor activity. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel outside assigned counties.
