Job summary

Hammond Boys and Girls Club in Hammond, IN is seeking a part-time Bus Operator to transport youth on designated routes after school. The role requires CDL with proper endorsements, DOT physical, and clean driving record; schedule is 1:30 pm–4:30 pm, Monday–Friday during the school year.

You will perform pre/post trips, plan routes, maintain records, and coordinate with club staff to ensure safe, punctual pickups and drop-offs. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or can be obtained.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• CDL Class A or B with all required school bus endorsements including passenger and air brake.
• DOT physical and Medical Examiner’s certificate; TB test may be yearly.
• Minimum two years’ experience transporting youth in clubs or similar.
• Must be at least 21 and hold a valid license for at least one year.
• Read and follow safety rules, maps and manuals.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work with limited supervision.
• Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Transport members to and from designated schools on assigned bus routes.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report deficiencies.
• Plan routes and maintain routes; follow schedules including field trips.
• Maintain clean bus and ensure fueling; manage equipment communications.
• Communicate with Club Directors and staff about times and locations.
• Provide safe environment and maintain confidentiality.
• Complete required reports and participate in random drug/alcohol testing.
• Report any accidents or injuries to Chief Operating Officer.
