Job summary

The New York Public Library is hiring an NYPL After School Tutor for the Harry Belafonte 115th Street Library. The role supports 6–12 year olds with drop-in homework help and enrichment activities in a lively branch setting.

Work is 16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday afternoons (2:00–7:00 PM). Term runs Sept 14, 2026 to June 9, 2027, with orientation Aug 31–Sept 11, 2026. Non-Union, non-exempt, part-time position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or current undergraduate enrollment with at least two years completed.
• Experience teaching or tutoring in formal or informal settings with children/teens.
• Ability to engage with children 6–12 and communicate with parents/caregivers.
• Strong grasp of elementary math, reading, social studies, and science basics.

Responsibilities

• Oversee After School homework help and enrichment at designated locations, Monday–Thursday, 2–7 PM.
• Welcome and engage children ages 6–12 in drop-in activities during after-school hours.
• Deliver flexible academic support across math, reading, social studies, and science.
• Share program information with parents/caregivers and refer to staff for resources.
• Manage attendance records, statistics, and distribution of supplies.
• Coordinate with branch/central staff to provide feedback on challenges and successes.
• Design and implement engaging enrichment activities to foster reading and learning.
• Support Youth employees from the Teen Reading Ambassadors program as needed.
