Job summary

The New York Public Library is seeking tutors for the NYPL After School program at the Charleston Library. This part-time role involves leading homework help and enrichment activities for children ages 6-12, with 16 hours per week scheduled Monday through Thursday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Orientation workshops are required before the term; employment runs Sept 14, 2026 to June 9, 2027. Compensation is $22.00 per hour.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment with two years completed in an accredited program.
Experience in formal or informal education settings with children/teens preferred.
Ability to engage with children ages 6-12 and communicate with caregivers.

Responsibilities

Oversee After School homework help and enrichment at designated locations (Mon–Thu, 2–7 PM).
Welcome and engage children 6–12 in homework help and activities.
Work individually and in groups delivering academic support across core subjects.
Share program information with parents/caregivers and refer to staff for resources.
Manage attendance, statistics, and distribution of supplies.
Communicate with staff to provide feedback and address challenges.
Design engaging enrichment activities to foster reading and learning.
Support Teen Reading Ambassadors and collaborate with Children’s Librarian.
Attend meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.
