Job summary

Vermont Catholic Schools Office Christ the King School in Burlington seeks an Afterschool Staff Member to provide direct care, supervision, and engaging programming for enrolled children. You will help create a safe, faith-informed environment while following daily schedules and staff assignments.

• Complete documented orientation before being left alone with children; maintain required first aid/CPR coverage or certification as assigned; complete mandated-reporter, medication, emergency, health-and-safety, and other role-specific training.
• Complete at least 15 hours of annual professional development tied to the IPDP or a 3 credit college courses, in addition to first aid/CPR per year.
• At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Job Description

The Afterschool Staff member provides direct care, active supervision, and developmentally appropriate programming for children enrolled in CH2. The employee supports a safe, welcoming, faith-informed environment; follows the daily schedule and staff assignments; maintains accurate awareness of every child; and works cooperatively with children, families, coworkers, school personnel, and program leadership.

Maintain active supervision by positioning to see, hear, count, and respond to children at all times; never leave a child unattended unless approved by State Regulations.

Know the names, number, and whereabouts of children assigned to the group. Complete name-to-face counts at arrival, dismissal, every transition, bathroom trips, playground entry and exit, group transfers, and changes in staff responsibility.

Maintain Vermont-required staff-to-child ratios and group sizes. Immediately notify the Afterschool Supervisor or Program Director when staffing, attendance, space, or a child’s needs could affect compliance.

Inspect activity and play areas for hazards; enforce safe use of equipment; and follow age restrictions for CKS playgrounds and program spaces.

Use walkie-talkies and other approved communication tools without reducing supervision. Use children’s initials in text communications and protect confidential information.

Implement a predictable, engaging program that include snack, outdoor or active play, creative activities, reading, homework support, games, STEM exploration, quiet choices, social opportunities, and child-led interests.

Provide activities appropriate to children’s ages, abilities, cultures, interests. Support inclusion and reasonable accommodations as directed.

Use positive, developmentally appropriate guidance. Model patience, respectful language, problem-solving, self-regulation, and the mission and values of Christ the King School.

Maintain professional boundaries and never use humiliating, threatening, isolating, physically punitive, or otherwise prohibited discipline.

Job Requirements

• Report to work on time, ready and fit for duty; follow the staffing schedule; and notify the Program Director as early as possible when unable to work.
  Attend required orientation, staff meetings, and training. Maintain BFIS and Northern Lights records and an annual IPDP as directed.
  Communicate respectfully with families while referring complaints, licensing questions, fees, enrollment promises, medication questions, and sensitive concerns to program leadership.
  Maintain confidentiality, use school-approved technology appropriately, care for program materials, clean assigned areas, and secure records and spaces at closing.
  Perform other related duties assigned by the Afterschool Supervisor, Program Director, or Principal that are consistent with the position and applicable law.
