Job summary

City of Alexandria invites applications for the Temporary Recreation Leader I – Out of School Time position to oversee programs for youth ages 5–17 in afterschool and summer settings. You will plan arts, sports, drama, STEAM, and field trips, guiding activities with supervision and a focus on safety and positive experiences.

The role emphasizes teamwork, customer service, and a welcoming, inclusive environment; expect ongoing meetings, reports, and coordination with families and staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and one (1) year of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. First Aid training.
• Must be 16 years or older and six (6) months of work related, volunteer experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Interests in working with youth ages 5–17 years old; experience leading youth in recreational activities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and facilitate sports and recreation activities, drama, music, arts and crafts for afterschool or summer programs.
• Follow Recreation Services Workplace Expectations and safety guidelines.
• Ensure participants are properly supervised at all times and maintain a safe environment.
• Prepare sites, equipment, and materials, and secure spaces after activities.
• Complete reports and paperwork in line with Department policies; communicate with OSTP families.
