Job summary

The YMCA of the Lowcountry is seeking an Afterschool Counselor to provide engaging, safe after-school programs for students. You will support homework in math and literacy and lead enrichment activities such as STEM while promoting healthy living and well-being. This role reports to the Sr.

Childcare Director and requires a high school diploma (bachelor’s preferred). The position offers flexible part-time hours up to 30 per week and a focus on creating a welcoming environment for youth and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Enrollment in an early childhood education program is preferred.
• Experience with elementary-aged children in a state-accredited childcare setting.
• Ability to actively supervise children and respond to emergencies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow policies, procedures, and licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and engage a group of children to ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
• Co-plan and implement program activities developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive.
• Adheres to program standards including health, safety, and cleanliness requirements.
• Attend required staff meetings and trainings including abuse risk management and youth safety training.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures including medical needs, behavior management, and emergency response.
• Build positive relationships with parents/guardians and staff; model strong communication.
