Job summary

The YMCA in Coventry, Rhode Island, is seeking an Afterschool Childcare Counselor to supervise and support K-8 participants after school. You will help plan activities and guide both academic and social growth in a safe, nurturing environment.

You will partner with the After-School Site Director, participate in 20 hours of DCYF-approved professional development, and maintain program records and family communications. This role emphasizes teamwork, inclusion, and positive youth development.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with school-age children in a group setting preferred or formal childcare training.
• Excellent group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and engagement of children in assigned group.
• Plan and facilitate purposeful activities aligned with the program theme.
• Provide assistance with homework and encourage academic progress.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate with supervisor.
• Communicate regularly with parents and attend family events.
• Uphold YMCA policies and promote positive youth development.
