Job summary

The Salvation Army Midwest Corps in Chicago, IL is seeking a part-time Classroom Monitor to supervise children in the afterschool program and support instructors with activities. Evening hours required as part of a faith-based youth program.

The role reports to the Youth Program Coordinator and requires a high school diploma or GED, plus possible college coursework. A valid driver’s license and MVR check are required. Safety and creative engagement are priorities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of college education is a plus but not required.
• One to two years of experience working with children is a plus but not required.
• Background in childcare or education is a plus.
• Experience in operating a faith-based organization is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and MVR clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children in the afterschool program.
• Assist instructors with academic, music, or elective lessons.
• Support program concepts of love, understanding, and self-worth.
• Ensure first aid and safety of children in program.
• Model Christian values for children, parents, and community.
• Provide a safe, fun, and wholesome environment for growth.
• Organize storage areas and manage materials to minimize loss.
• Attend all Afterschool Program staff meetings.
• Complete Safe-From-Harm trainings within 30 days of hire.
• Other duties as assigned.
