Job summary

Boston Public Schools is seeking an Afterschool Program Coordinator to provide administrative and operational support for a small afterschool program serving 25–30 children. You will help with scheduling, enrollment, communications, and day-to-day operations with the Afterschool Classroom Facilitator(s) and the Principal.

The role runs Monday through Thursday until 4:30 PM, part-time ~12 hours/week, with some additional meetings and training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 48 college credits or an Associate's Degree or approved test.
  • Two years of experience with school-age children in relevant settings.
  • Authorization to work in the United States by start date.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.
  • Experience planning enrichment or youth development activities.
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in inclusive settings.
  • Experience with multilingual learners and diverse families.
  • Experience in Boston Public Schools setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate staff schedules and arrange substitute coverage.
  • Manage enrollment, waitlists, and program registration/fees.
  • Maintain program calendar and communicate updates.
  • Maintain enrollment and attendance records.
  • Coordinate materials and supplies for the program.
  • Serve as primary contact for family communications; collaborate with Family Liaison.
  • Support the Principal with administrative tasks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Description:

The Afterschool Program Coordinator provides administrative and operational support for a small afterschool program serving approximately 25-30 children and a team of 2 afterschool classroom staff. Working closely with the Afterschool Classroom Facilitator(s) and the Principal, the Coordinator helps ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the program through staff scheduling, enrollment, communication, and other administrative support.

School/Program Information:

The program will run each regular school day from Monday through Thursday from dismissal until 4:30 PM.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate staff schedules and arrange substitute coverage to ensure appropriate staffing for program operations.
  • Coordinate student enrollment, maintain waitlists, and support program registration and fee collection activities.
  • Maintain the program calendar and communicate schedule changes, school closures, and other program updates to staff and families.
  • Maintain enrollment, attendance, and other program records as required.
  • Coordinate the ordering and organization of program materials and supplies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for routine afterschool program communications with families, including enrollment, attendance, program calendar, and operations. Collaborate with the school's Family Liaison to ensure families receive timely information and appropriate support.
  • Support the Principal with administrative tasks related to the operation of the Afterschool Program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications – Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on one of the following formalized standardized assessments:
    • ParaPro Assessment; or
    • ACT WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with school-age children in an afterschool, summer, educational, recreation, or youth development setting.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
Qualifications – Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, child development, youth development, recreation, human services, or a related field.
  • Experience planning and facilitating enrichment or youth development activities for school-age children.
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in inclusive educational or youth development settings.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Experience working in a Boston Public Schools setting, particularly at the school where the position is located.
  • Familiarity with the students, families, and school community served by the program.
  • Proficiency in [language(s)].
Terms:

Part-time, approximately 12 hours per week during the school year, from school dismissal until 4:30pm. Additional hours for required meetings, training, and professional development may be required.

Pay Rate:

$27/hour ns@bostonpublicschools.org.
