Job summary

The Art Farm NYC is seeking an experienced Pre-K Lead Teacher to lead an afterschool classroom for preschool-aged children in Lower Manhattan. The role involves guiding daily routines, planning developmentally appropriate activities, and supervising children with support from an Assistant Teacher and program leadership.

You will create a warm, organized, and engaging space, manage transitions, and communicate with families and staff.

Qualifications

• Experience with Pre-K or preschool-aged children.
• Experience leading a classroom or program.
• Background in Early Childhood Education or related field.
• Strong classroom-management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a classroom of preschool-aged children during the afterschool program.
• Follow an established daily schedule and classroom routine.
• Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities (art, science, sensory play, stories, games, movement).
• Maintain a safe, positive, well-supervised classroom environment.
• Support children with transitions, snack, play, cleanup, and dismissal.
• Use positive classroom-management and behavior-support techniques.
• Encourage social skills, independence, communication, and positive peer interactions.
• Provide direction and support to an Assistant Teacher.
• Maintain attendance and required classroom documentation.
• Communicate concerns regarding student behavior, development, safety, or health to program leadership.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and fellow team members.
