Job summary

Pueblo of Zuni Public Library seeks an Afterschool Mentor to plan, implement, and administer the program. Under Librarian supervision, you will supervise school-aged children and coordinate diverse activities with safety as a priority.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with some relevant experience, a valid NM/driver license, First Aid/CPR, and a commitment to engaging youth in learning and cultural enrichment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of working with school-aged children.
• Ability to develop and implement creative activities.
• Ability to work well with others in a team setting.
• Ability to plan and coordinate activities.
• Must have planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate in English (verbally and in writing) and in Zuni (verbally).
• Proficient in basic computer applications.
• Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
• Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with tribal employees, children and their families, and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate activities: Develop and lead age-appropriate academic, recreational, cultural, and enrichment activities that encourage learning, creativity, and social development.
• Collaborate with team members to coordinate activities.
• Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and enjoyable manner.
• Maintain storage of games and craft materials.
• Interacting with children and families.
• Oversee the food program's inventory to maximize efficiency and quality of snacks for children.
• Distribute daily snacks in a clean, orderly manner while following food-safety standards and ensuring all dietary or allergies are properly respected.
• Clean of space after use.
• Conduct outreach related to the After-School Program.
• Provide active supervision of all children; maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment at all times.
• Follow all program safety protocols and behavior management guidelines.
• Monthly report to Library Board; update registration sheets; post events on ZPL calendar; complete required documentation.
• Scheduling of activities per Zuni Public School District calendar; plan for summer break for all grades.
