Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA seeks an Afterschool Enrichment Leader for Baywood Elementary in San Luis Obispo, CA. This part-time role involves planning and supervising afterschool activities for children, ensuring a safe and engaging environment, and promoting healthy eating and physical activity.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or equivalent, childcare experience, and the ability to obtain background clearance. Flexible scheduling and YMCA benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• 48 college units OR an Associate’s Degree OR paraeducator exam.
• 1 year of childcare experience preferred.
• Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and implement childcare programs per California guidelines.
• Supervise up to 20 children independently.
• Provide quality care and supervision for children.
• Create a safe, welcoming environment for all children.
• Guide behaviors using positive methods.
• Carry out activities and lesson plans.
• Ensure HEPA standards are met.
• Assist with setup/cleanup of program area.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and build connections with families.
• Attend in-service trainings and remain inclusive for all participants.

What does an Afterschool Enrichment Leader do?

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs in accordance with guidelines from California department Education Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs
• Supervise up to 20 children independently under the guidelines from the California Department Education Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs
• Provide quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive)
• Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive
• Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs
• Carry out activities and lesson plans
• Ensure the program is delivering Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards
• Set up and cleanup of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc
• Provide exceptional customer service and fosters connections with children and families
• Participate and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all children and families
