Job summary

Building One Community in Stamford, CT seeks an Academic Enrichment Program Assistant to support the after-school program for elementary students, families and volunteers in a welcoming environment.

The role involves classroom management, student engagement, and lesson facilitation, with opportunities to connect families to community resources. Spanish proficiency is highly preferred to support Spanish-speaking parents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; education, child development, social services, psychology, or related field preferred.
• Experience with elementary-age children in educational, recreational, youth development, or community-based settings.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with children, families and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Support daily supervision and classroom management of elementary-age students in a structured after-school environment.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students and foster belonging, safety, respect and engagement.
• Observe and document student behavioral, developmental, and academic needs.
• Assist with interventions and strategies to address behavioral, social-emotional, developmental, and academic concerns.
• Support students with homework, literacy activities, enrichment activities, and other program activities.
• Monitor student interactions and help resolve conflicts using positive behavior-support strategies.
• Communicate significant student concerns to the Academic Enrichment Team and assist with follow-up.
• Assist with planning, preparing, and facilitating academic and enrichment activities.
• Prepare classroom materials, supplies, and learning spaces before program sessions.
• Support implementation of curricula and activities while adapting to students’ needs.
• Establish positive relationships with parents and caregivers.
• Help identify barriers affecting students’ academic, behavioral, social-emotional, or developmental success.
• Provide families with information about Building One Community programs and resources.
• Communicate with families in a culturally responsive and strengths-based manner.
