Job summary

Third Street Music School seeks a Public School Teaching Artist to lead afterschool elementary music and choir for 3rd–5th grade students at a NYC public school in the Bronx. The role focuses on engaging students with group instruction, song, movement and cultural expression, with attention to inclusive practices.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience teaching choir and elementary music to students ages 8-11.
• Experience teaching in group settings and with diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Strong communication and collaboration with teachers and staff.

Responsibilities

• Teach group classes in NYC public schools (20-30 students, 45 minutes).
• Develop and teach ~24 weeks of culturally responsive curriculum.
• Develop students’ vocal technique and music vocabulary.
• Foster love of music through song, dance and instrument exploration.
• Collaborate with site contact and classroom teachers on curriculum and scheduling.
• Prepare students for informal or formal performances as needed.
• Encourage ongoing music education beyond the program.
