Job summary

InnovateEDU in Brooklyn is seeking an Education Specialist for its afterschool program funded by DYCD. The role strengthens instructional quality by reviewing lesson plans, observing activities, and coaching staff to ensure enrichment is engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate.

The position is onsite two to three afternoons per week (Mon and Thu 3:15 PM–5:30 PM), with compensation of $25 per hour. A Bachelors in education and NYC teaching experience are preferred as qualifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
• Experience teaching or coaching in middle school.
• Ability to observe instruction and give constructive feedback.
• Onsite work and NYC DYCD experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review lesson plans and translate activity ideas into clear objectives, engaging activities, and age-appropriate learning experiences.
• Observe enrichment sessions and provide timely, practical written and verbal feedback to instructors and group leaders.
• Coach staff on student engagement, classroom management, differentiation, culturally responsive practices, and inclusive instruction.
• Support project-based learning and the integration of social-emotional learning across activities.
• Track lesson-plan submission and follow up with staff on instructional improvements.
• Partner with the Program Director to identify training needs and help plan or facilitate short staff-development sessions.
• Support documentation of instructional quality and preparation for DYCD monitoring visits and program evaluations.
• Promote a safe, supportive environment and coordinate with onsite leadership when student needs or program concerns arise.
