Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a Site Counselor to support afterschool programs at the Covington Family YMCA. You will lead groups, plan activities, and help students with school tasks while adhering to Bright From the Start and YMCA standards.

Under the Site Director and Afterschool Program Director, you will ensure safety, documentation, and effective instruction with a focus on school success and development.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
• Credential meeting Bright From the Start (BFTS) requirements is preferred.
• CPR/First Aid training current or able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online platforms (Google Classroom, Zoom).
• Must clear GCIC/NCIC and fingerprint checks through Bright From the Start before working; annual GCIC checks required.

Overview

As a thought-leader and best-in-class provider in education, wellness, youth development, and community-building, The YMCA of Metro Atlanta seeks a Site Counselor to support afterschool programs. Under the direction of the Afterschool Program Director(s) and Site Director, the Site Counselor leads assigned groups in planned activities that support program goals. Activities focus on building skills for school success and align with Bright from the Start (BFTS) and YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate the program according to BFTS and YMCA policies and procedures.
• Create an environment with varied activities and instruction to support program goals.
• Deliver the program in compliance with YMCA and BFTS regulations.
• Discuss and report any concerns with the Site Director.
• Maintain personal files to remain in compliance with Bright From the Start and the YMCA.
• Compile attendance records and other pertinent information required by the program, as needed.
• Coordinate supply orders with the Site Director.
• Attend BFTS, YMCA, and other trainings as scheduled; maintain BFTS annual training hours.
• Consult with the Site Director on concerns related to student development or behavior.
• Provide input into the planning and development of the program.
• Complete monthly self-assessments of the program, as needed.
• Assist students with virtual learning assignments as required by their school district.
• Perform other duties related to delivering a quality afterschool program.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must possess a minimum credential that meets BFTS requirements and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
• A licensed setting with supervision of staff in a school-age setting is a plus.
• Current evidence of successful completion of biennial CPR/First Aid training or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet platforms such as Google Classroom and Zoom.
• Must obtain a cleared GCIC/NCIC and a cleared Fingerprint check through Bright From the Start before working; annual GCIC checks will be conducted before each school year begins.
• Ergonomic requirements: bending, stooping, standing, sitting, lifting up to 30 pounds, seeing, hearing, keyboard input.
• Employment requirements: ability to pass pre-employment background checks including criminal record check, drug screening, motor vehicle record (MVR), and reference checks according to policy.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
