Job summary

Calhoun Montessori School is seeking a part-time Cooking Instructor to teach Nursery through 4th grade students the basics of cooking, food science, and nutrition at Calhoun Montessori School in New York. The role focuses on creating a safe, engaging kitchen environment where students explore ingredients and follow recipes.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Education or Nutrition, with experience teaching elementary students, strong kitchen safety knowledge, and a passion

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Education, Nutrition, or related field.
• Teaching experience with elementary students preferred.
• Excellent kitchen tools and safety guidelines.
• Ability to inspire and motivate young learners.

Responsibilities

• Teach age-appropriate cooking lessons that emphasize fun, safety, and basic culinary skills.
• Plan and lead engaging recipes that introduce students to new foods, cultures, and kitchen tools.
• Manage and prepare ingredients and materials in advance of each class session.
• Guide students through hands-on activities like mixing, measuring, chopping (safely!), and decorating.
• Help students create simple, take-home recipes or edible projects to share with families.
• Collaborate with admin to manage student progress and behavioral expectations.
• Communicate effectively with management regarding student and program-related matters.
• Utilize company-wide digital platforms to perform administrative tasks (e.g., attendance, incident reports).
• Maintain a clean and organized cooking space, following all safety and food-handling protocols.
