The Cambridge-Ellis School, Cambridge, MA is seeking a Head Teacher for our new School Age Mandarin Program! The ideal candidate is a fluent Mandarin speaker and has strong conversational and written English skills, as well as experience working with young learners and developing innovative curriculum. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in collaborating with school leadership to design new programming. Please note that this is an after-school role from 12:30 (or 1 pm)-6:15 pm, Monday-Friday.

School Age Program Description:

The school-age Mandarin programming will follow a project-based model where children work collaboratively in the target language on large-scale projects that interest them, bringing in cultural and local community components and connections, as well as providing opportunities for DEI learning and activism. Mini lessons will target specific language learning, and support beginning literacy skills. Children will have regular opportunities for outdoor play, art, cooking, music, and movement.

Up to 8 children in the Kindergarten-1st Grade group. (M/W/F)

Up to 10 children in the 1st-3rd Grade group. (T/Th)

1 Head Teacher, with floating teacher support available (shared with preschool language program)

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementation of room design, set up, curriculum planning, and documentation (1 hour provided daily for planning, documentation, and other preparation needs)
  • Provide and supervise activities that promote healthy social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of each child
  • Engage collaboratively in staff meetings and with other teachers
  • Assist with bus pick ups as needed for children attending the Language Program
  • Create, in collaboration with the students, an End of Year portfolio highlighting their development and learning
  • Design and Implementing project-based curriculum targeted toward student interests
  • Differentiate instruction for a multi-age and multi-level language classroom
  • Support the creation of a positive, fun, immersive language learning environment

Compensation:

  • $45,660-50,710 per school year (10 months)
  • Please note that this is an hourly equivalent of $35-40/hour
  • Opportunity for additional hours and compensation if desired through subbing and/or teaching in our Summer Program
  • 401K Matching Program

Work Hours:

  • Mon-Fri from 12:30 (or 1 pm) -6:15pm
  • Mondays from 7-8pm for staff meetings (via zoom)
  • Participate in out of school hours and events as described in the Employee Handbook

CES is a non-profit, NAEYC accredited school serving children ages 2-6 years old. We provide a warm, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment through emergent curriculum planning and by using an inquiry-based approach for teaching and learning. Our unique after-school Language Program offers mixed-age immersion language classes in Mandarin, French, or Spanish for preschoolers ages 3-6.
