Job summary

Active Plus in New York City seeks an experienced Youth Yoga & Mindfulness Instructor to lead after-school sessions for middle and/or high school students in the Bronx and Brooklyn. The role focuses on introducing yoga, breathing techniques, mindfulness, and emotional regulation through accessible activities.

As an independent contractor, you will commit ~2 hours weekly for a 10-week program, collaborating with staff and adapting activities to diverse youth.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching yoga and/or mindfulness.
• Experience working with middle or high school-aged youth preferred.
• Yoga certification preferred.
• Strong communication and group facilitation skills.
• Comfortable working with youth from diverse NYC communities.
• Reliable and available during after-school hours.
• Ability to travel to program sites in the Bronx and/or Brooklyn.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate approximately 2 hours of programming per week for 10 weeks.
• Lead beginner-friendly yoga, stretching, breathing, and mindfulness activities.
• Create a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment for youth.
• Adapt activities based on students’ ages, abilities, and comfort levels.
• Collaborate with Active Plus staff and other program facilitators.
• Maintain consistent attendance and communication throughout the 10-week program.
