Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Montgomery is seeking an after-school counselor for the Goodtimes program in Montgomery, AL. The role runs from 2:30pm to 6:00pm, August 10, 2026 through May 25, 2027, and requires supervision of children with a focus on safety and engagement.

Responsibilities include planning activities, interacting with children and parents, and maintaining program documentation and equipment. Applicants must be at least 17 and CPR/First Aid/AED certified or obtained within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 17 years old, undergoing professional preparation to be a leader of young children or having experience with elementary age children.
• Must be willing to fulfill the counselor’s responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA’s philosophy and goals.
• Current CPR; First Aid; AED or within 30 days

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Site Director.
• Supervise and interact with a specific group of children while maintaining a professional attitude and loyalty to the YMCA.
• To plan, implement and participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to, weekly lesson plans, sports, games, crafts, etc.
• Be responsible for the safety of program participants at all times.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, program participants and other staff.
• Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training programs.
• To complete all required documentation for the program.
• Responsible for maintenance and care of equipment and supplies.
