Job summary

Breakthrough New York is seeking an After School Instructor to deliver the Writing curriculum and support program operations at one of our middle school sites. The role runs Fall 2026, with on-site sessions Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00–7:00 PM, Sept 16–Dec 16, plus trainings and weekly check-ins.

The position requires a current college student (or 18+) and comfort with Zoom/Google Drive; compensation is $20/hr for the Fall term with potential for renewal depending on performance and need.

Qualifications

• Experience with similar responsibilities and results.
• Passion for mentoring middle school students.
• 18+ or current college student.
• Commitment to Fall 2026 term (Sept 16–Dec 16).
• Comfort with learning new systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-written Writing curriculum twice weekly to middle school students.
• Support program logistics and fill in when needed.
• Learn student management techniques and communicate needs to the Program Manager.
• Attend weekly check-ins for professional development and evaluations.
• Evaluate student output and track performance.
• Complete training and observation sessions.
• Other duties based on the site assignment.
