Job description

Job Title: Afterschool Support Staff

Reports To: Head of School

Hours: Part-Time 2:30-5:30, Monday–Friday during school year

Possibility of Full-Time or Part-Time during summer 2027.

Pay: $20.63+ an hour

Purpose Of The Position

This role is to work with students ages 6-12. The shift is 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM fulfilling some support staff tasks and supervising the students after school (PM Care). You may be called in for longer hours periodically if needed. As Afterschool Support Staff at Three Tree Montessori School, your role is vital in ensuring the smooth operation of the TTMS PM Care program and the school's day-to-day functioning. This position involves a variety of tasks, from cleaning and dishwashing to laundry assistance and classroom substitution. Depending on the school's needs, you may be stationed in a PM Care classroom for the entire afternoon or scheduled as a built-in substitute outside of the classroom. Secondly, Three Tree offers a summer program and the person hired may be able to continue part-time or transition to a full time position, 40 hours per week. The 8 hour shift may be between 8 AM and 5:30 PM, depending on the needs of the school. When with the students, your primary responsibility is to supervise and contribute to the well‑being of the children and the group. You'll be readily available to assist children as needed, actively observing the environment and children. You may be expected to prepare ideas for activities for the students. In the summer program, as in the school year, there are Montessori principles we continue to uphold.

Duties
  • Supervise and engage children during afterschool programs and summer activities (if applicable), ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Assisting with material-making.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and hygiene of the school environment.
  • Washing classroom and school dishes.
  • Assist with planning and implementing educational activities, games, arts and crafts, and recreational events.
  • Foster a supportive environment that encourages social skills, teamwork, and personal growth
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and team members regarding children's activities and well‑being
Things To Do
  • Create a safe and secure environment for the children.
  • Be punctual and attentive during transitions to help the children settle.
  • Contribute to the preparation and clean‑up of the environment, including restocking supplies.
  • Communicate with the children respectfully at all times.
  • Redirect children when necessary and protect their concentration.
  • Approach children at their eye level, avoiding calling to them across the room.
  • Rotate through the classroom, offering assistance only when needed.
  • Accompany children to and from different environments in an orderly manner.
  • Ensure all children receive equal attention.
  • Use positive language and maintain consistency.
  • Respect the child's and the family's right to confidentiality, refraining from discussing children or families with parents or other staff unless it's job‑related and in private.
  • Foster healthy and effective relationships with community members, practicing direct, honest, and respectful communication.

Please note that this job description may not cover all activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this position. Your duties, responsibilities, and activities may change with or without notice.
