Job summary

Southwest STEM Labs is seeking an enthusiastic After-School Program Assistant to support our 3rd-5th grade STEM program in Detroit. You will help create a safe, engaging environment by guiding students through hands-on activities that spark curiosity and teamwork after school.

The role requires 60 college credits, availability 2:30 PM–6:00 PM, and a passion for STEM education. Bilingual skills are a plus; a background check is required.

Qualifications

• 60 college credits or equivalent in education, social work, or STEM.
• Available 2:30 PM–6:00 PM, 3–5 days/week.
• Experience with elementary-aged children.
• Interest in STEM, education, or youth mentorship.
• Dependable, patient, and professional.
• Background check required before starting.
• Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support STEM instructors during after-school sessions (setup, activity help, supervision).
• Engage with students in a safe, encouraging, and professional manner.
• Assist with group projects (environmental science, coding, robotics, creative STEM challenges).
• Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
• Ensure students are picked up safely at the end of the day.
