Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Youth Mentor to support the BAGS Foundation Afterschool Program in Waterbury, CT. You will assist the program coordinator, help coordinate daily operations, and engage school-aged children after school hours.

The role requires a current student, at least 18, and a High School diploma or GED. You will work up to 20 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, with an hourly rate of $17.50–$20.00, and First Aid/CPR training within one month of hire.

Qualifications

• Must be a current Post University student
• High school diploma or GED
• Working towards a degree in early childhood education, Education, psychology, or a related field preferred (may be substituted with years of experience)
• 2+ years of experience working with School Aged Children.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Clean driving record and valid driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of Child Development.
• Awareness of Age-Appropriate curriculum activities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• All candidates for employment will be subject to pre-employment background screening for this position, which includes criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
• Approved for FWS

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the daily operation of the after-school program.
• Create and coordinate athletics programs to enrich the student's experience, create workouts, and encourage healthy eating choices.
• Document and communicate with parents any accidents or incidents that have occurred with youth during programming
• Maintain positive relationships with families, children, and school personnel
• Prepare program space for each activity, to include organizing supplies, organizing equipment and informing supervisor of needed equipment or supplies.
• Assist in maintaining and updating monthly activity calendars for program.
• Assist in coordinating special events (Holiday parties, talent shows, etc.)
• Daily set up and clean-up of program site.
• Support social/emotional development.
• Support student academics & reading.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings as scheduled.
• First Aid/CPR/ certification to be acquired within 1 month of hire.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Regular and consistent attendance is considered an essential function of this position.
