Job summary

Somerville Public Schools is seeking a Part-Time Afterschool Assistant Teacher for East Somerville. The role supports the Somerville Community Schools program, providing after-school care from dismissal through evening hours, with duties spanning teaching, supervision, and program coordination.

The candidate will lead activities, supervise children, and help implement curriculum aligned with Somerville Public Schools.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree required or High School Diploma with 9 months experience in school-age care.
• Experience with project-based curriculum and age-appropriate activities.
• Ability to supervise and engage children in after-school settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead small and large group activities to engage children.
• Supervise and interact with students and ensure safety.
• Discipline and guide behavior per program policy.
• Maintain a clean, organized classroom and set up supplies.
• Plan and implement daily after-school activities and summer programs.
• Participate in staff meetings and communicate with Administration.
• Assist in transporting and supervising field trips when needed.
• Support families and build positive relationships.
