Job summary

JCC Greater Boston in Newton Centre is seeking part-time After-School Program Educators for the Discovery Club, serving students in grades K-5. You will foster a safe, engaging environment with activities that promote curiosity and teamwork while supporting social-emotional and experiential learning. The role offers afternoon hours (typical schedule 3 p.m.–6 p.m.

on Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri; 12:30 p.m.–6 p.m. on Wed) with a September–June school-year calendar and a pay rate of $20–$23 per hour,

  • An associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus 3 months of experience working with children

Job description

JCC Greater Boston is seeking (part-time) After-School Program Educators for our 2026-2027 after-school enrichment program. This role is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about making a positive impact on children's lives.

As an After-School Educator at the JCC Greater Boston, you will play a key role in creating engaging and supportive experiences for children enrolled in Discovery Club, an active and entertaining after-school program for students in grades K-5. An After School Educator is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can thrive after their school day. This includes promoting the physical and emotional safety of each child, ensuring that classroom procedures and protocols are followed at all times. This position facilitates a variety of fun and enriching activities designed to stimulate curiosity and creativity, ranging from structured games to open-ended projects that encourage exploration and teamwork. By fostering a positive classroom atmosphere, the educator supports both individual and group growth, creating spaces where children feel valued, supported, and free to express themselves.

Primary Responsibilities Include, And Are Not Limited To

  • Actively create a welcoming dynamic environment where each individual is valued and respected
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values including through personal role modeling
  • Attend JCC meetings and actively participate in the department's goals and initiatives
  • Participating as a team member in Family Programming meetings and training
  • Communicating effectively with Discovery Club leadership and team staff
  • Completing some hours of orientation and onboarding prior to being in the classroom
  • Other responsibilities and tasks, as needed

This is a limited part-time +/- 5-20 hours per week, non-exempt position. Offering great perks, a supportive, vibrant, in-person work environment and a competitive starting pay rate of $20- $23 per hour. The pay rate offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, experience, and JCC's internal equity. Work schedule typically 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 12:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. each Wednesday.

This position follows a school year calendar which typically runs from September - June each year, with some onboarding and orientation/training in August.

The salary offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, experience, and JCC's internal equity.

Requirements
  • Nine months experience working with children OR

Must pass state mandated CORI/SORI/DCF/fingerprinting background check

Must be 18 years or older

Physical Requirements: Able to work well in person in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Able to lift and carry objects weighing at 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children's backpacks etc. Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly.
