Job summary

Friendly House is hiring an After School Assistant Teacher to support safe, developmentally appropriate activities and supervise a group of children in the after school program. You will assist the teacher and help ensure enrichment, social development, health, and safety across Friendly House sites including Chapman School and Wallace Park.

This 20-hour-per-week, in-person role requires adherence to childcare regulations, effective classroom setup, and ongoing training to meet Oregon standards.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and ability to follow safety guidelines.
• Ability to set up classroom and maintain clean, organized spaces.
• Commitment to Oregon childcare regulations and Friendly House policies.
• Ability to supervise groups and maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios.

Responsibilities

• Comprehend and comply with Oregon Rules for Certified Childcare Centers.
• Set up classroom daily and prepare materials.
• Tables cleaned before children arrive, before meals, after meals, end of day, as needed.
• Recognize and report hazards to safety and supervise children.
• Demonstrate good judgement to ensure health and safety of children.
• Respect the diversity and potential of all children and families.
• Identify each child in care and interact with courtesy and patience.
• Maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios (up to 15 alone, up to 30 with another teacher, up to 120 with team).
• Use positive language and emotional skills with children.
• Report suspected abuse or neglect per law.
• Meet Oregon Registry online training requirements (15 hours/year) and complete training hours by Dec 31.
• Submit training certificates to Director, HR manager and Oregon Registry Online.
