Job summary

YMCA of Northern Utah is seeking a substitute staff member to support the afterschool program, providing supervised care and engaging activities from 2:30pm to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, under the direction of the on-site coordinator.

You will supervise youth, maintain safety, assist with homework and literacy, help set up daily lesson materials, and support family engagement activities and field trips.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Interest in working with youth.
• Must obtain Food Handlers Permit within 30 days of hire.
• 6 months experience with youth behavior in groups preferred but not required.
• Must obtain First Aid, CPR and Food Handlers certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance within 10 days of hire.
• Must complete Department of Child Care Licensing fingerprinting and background check.
• Proven ability to build authentic relationships with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Work as an in-ratio staff member at YMCA afterschool locations.
• Provide supervision of youth and ensure a child is never left alone.
• Ensure safety by setting and enforcing classroom expectations.
• Follow childcare licensing guidelines.
• Promote belonging, relationships, and achievement.
• Praise student accomplishments.
• Support literacy and homework during success hour.
• Assist site coordinator with daily lesson setup.
• Assist with family engagement activities and field trips.
• Ensure the classroom space is cleaned and closed at end of program.
