Job summary

Salvation Army Jackson Corps is seeking staff to lead after-school programs, supervise children, and assist with tutoring, activities, and transportation. The role includes classroom training, snack service, and field trips, with CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

A valid state driver’s license is required for vehicle transport. The position is part-time (17 hours/week, Monday–Friday) at the Jackson, MS location, with duties in a church-based after-school environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years experience teaching child development programs in a church.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  • Develops and implements age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through indoor and outdoor learning.
  • Maintains records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports).
  • Ensures safety and accountability of children during activities and field trips.

Job DetailsJob Location: ALM-Jackson Ms Corps - Jackson, MS 39206Job Category: RecreationSchedule: Monday - Friday, After School Work, (17 hours per week)

This position is responsible for: Leads children's activities at an after-school program including classroom training, tutoring, assists with homework, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; prepares and serves children snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the after-school area.

Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers from school to the Salvation Army facility for after school care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  • Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
  • Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
  • Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a normal camp environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
  • Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN YOU

Licenses and Certification:
  • Valid state driver's license
  • C.P.R. and First Aid Certifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
  • Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.
  • Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements.
