Job summary

Overtown Youth Center is seeking a dedicated Middle School Teacher to join our team in Florida. You will plan, implement, and supervise daily curriculum for students, fostering growth and a safe, engaging learning environment.

You will collaborate with BCPS, work with at-risk youth, and document progress while delivering developmentally appropriate lessons. The role runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM EST.

• Ability to teach across multiple subjects and foster development.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with students and colleagues.
• Experience working with at-risk youth and supporting academic and emotional growth.
• Excellent assessment skills with measurable goals for student development.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between the Overtown Youth Center and BCPS, ensuring smooth communication and coordination of services.
• Teach all subject areas as part of a well-rounded curriculum for students in the program.
• Plan and implement daily classroom activities, preparing engaging lesson plans and developmental activities.
• Work with at-risk youth, supporting their academic and personal growth while fostering a safe, positive learning environment.
• Document student progress, including attendance, test scores, graduation rates, and accomplishments.
• Assist with field trips, exposure trips, and other extracurricular activities when necessary.
• Coordinate services and collaborate with other professionals and paraprofessionals to support student development.
• Participate in weekly meetings with the lead teacher to discuss curriculum, student progress, and classroom goals.
• Engage in staff development workshops and training sessions to enhance growth.
• Build strong relationships with students, creating a positive classroom environment.
• Contribute to the quality improvement process, offering feedback and participating in ongoing evaluation of programs.
