Job summary

KIPP Public Schools Northern California is seeking an After School Teacher/Instructor to provide homework help, academic support and enrichment after school on site at KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy in SF. The role reports to the Extended Learning Opportunity Program Director and requires 1–2 years in youth development or equivalent.

The position is part-time (approx. 20 hours/week, M–F 2:00 PM–6:00 PM) with potential Summer Extension (20–40 hours/week).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with ability to pass ETS ParaPro (460) or CBEST within 90 days
  • OR AA or BA degree (min 48 units)
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work with youth from diverse backgrounds including discipline issues
  • Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides)

Responsibilities

  • Implement after school activities in core program areas (academic assistance, homework club, fitness/recreation, arts, enrichment)
  • Assist in documenting program schedules, lesson plans, curriculum, participation and outcomes
  • Use positive behavior and classroom management techniques with children
  • Accurately track student attendance (sign-in/out) daily
  • Assist with after school program registration, customer service, and community outreach
  • Maintain health and safety standards to ensure safety of students and staff
  • Participate in all after school activities including setup, takedown and cleanup
  • Communicate and work with students, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners

Job description

Position Summary

The After School Teacher/Instructor will work directly with a group of students, providing homework assistance, academic support and enrichment activities after school on site at KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy. Program leaders’ ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, is essential to success. Must be able to commit to working throughout the entire school year.

Reports to: Extended Learning Opportunity Program Director.

Qualifications
Experience:
  • A minimum of 1-2 years work experience in a youth development organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
Education/certifications:

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND ability to Pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment (passing score= 460) or Pass the CBEST Exams within 90 days of employment
  • OR AA degree or BA degree (min of 48 units)
Knowledge/skills required:
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to deal effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds, including discipline problems.
  • Demonstrated ability working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Have proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Implement after school activities within assigned core program areas, including academic assistance, homework club, fitness/recreation, arts, and enrichment activities.

  • Maintain high standards of health and safety to ensure the safety of students, staff members and others.
  • Participate in all after school activities including preparation, set-up, take-down and clean-up to ensure facility cleanliness.
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners.
Physical:

Ability to navigate school and classroom settings. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-35 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include frequent kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead

Mental:

Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental:

School and in-person classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.

Classification and Schedule
  • Part time, non-exempt school based position on school calendar. Approximately 20 hours/week, M-F 2:00PM- 6:00PM.
  • Depending on school need and availability, this role could include an optional 6-week Summer Extension (20-40 hours/week).

  • 10 month Standard Compensation (20 hours/week) - $20.92 - $24.84/hour based on experience.
  • Depending on school need and availability, this role could include an optional 6-week Summer Extension (20-40 hours/week). Compensation for this period would be $30.00/hour.
