Job summary

Global Kids is seeking an energetic After-school Counselor to serve as a Group Leader, providing a secure, nurturing environment for middle and elementary students in NYC public schools. The role includes mentoring, supervising activities, and chaperoning trips, with a 1:30 PM–6:00 PM weekday schedule.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, experience with youth, and a passion for global education and social action.

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• Preference for candidates currently attending college.
• Experience with youth using interactive learning strategies.
• Experience with English Language Learners is preferred.
• Commitment to working in culturally diverse settings with antiracist practices.
• Knowledge of global issues, political science, history, education, and social activism is a plus.
• Strong facilitation, consensus-building, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent work ethic, reliability, initiative, creativity, and willingness to learn.
• Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
• International experience is a plus.
• Fluency in other languages (Spanish or French) is beneficial.
• Global Kids alumni are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Create and facilitate interactive, experiential workshops for middle school or elementary students.
• Serve as a positive mentor for GK youths.
• Assist with group management and safety during check-in, activities, and dismissal.
• Supervise students and ensure they are never left unattended.
• Chaperone trips when needed.
• Collect program documents and attendance.
• Follow guidelines set by GK, DOE, DYCD, and Health Department.
• Available to work 20–25 hours, Monday–Friday, with some weekends if needed.
