Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a part-time Counselor (Program Aide) to support a nurturing preschool learning environment. You will assist in implementing early childhood activities and ensure safety during all transitions and routines.

The role emphasizes engaging children through play, supervising activities, and collaborating with Program Lead to deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum. Training and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include CPR/First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills for interacting with children.
• Ability to be on time for scheduled shifts.
• Willingness to work at various program locations.
• Staff must pass background checks and pre-employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and Safety: ensure children's safety during activities, meals and transitions.
• Support Activities: assist in delivering developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
• Child Engagement: foster positive relationships and individualized attention for each child.
• Behavior Management: support positive behavior guidance and self-regulation.
• Communication: provide feedback on children's progress to families and YMCA leadership.
