Job summary

Partnership with Children in the South Bronx is seeking a part-time Afterschool Content Specialist to curate and supervise engaging curricula for afterschool programs in line with DYCD guidelines. Based at the South Bronx Academy for Applied Media in Bronx, NY, the role involves coaching staff, observing lessons, and ensuring learning goals, safety, and inclusivity.

The position is in-person with weekday afternoon hours and occasional weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Childhood Education, Youth Development, English or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• At least one year in a supervisory/oversight role including staff development.
• Experience supporting literacy or STEM instruction preferred.
• Knowledge of NYC DOE curriculum; DYCD COMPASS/SONYC familiarity a plus.
• Strong instructional, communication, and classroom management skills.

• Create project-based learning experiences in literacy, STEM, math, and other areas.
• Ensure activities are differentiated, inclusive, and culturally responsive.

• Lead staff training on academic support, behavior management, and youth engagement.
• Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback.
• Assist staff in designing age-appropriate learning experiences and small-group instruction.
• Align afterschool supports with school-day priorities and curriculum.
• Utilize student data to inform planning and interventions.
• Help track student participation and program outcomes.
• Maintain documentation like lesson plans and progress updates.
• Contribute to DYCD Connect reporting with accurate records.
• Ensure activities meet DYCD COMPASS/SONYC requirements and safety standards.
• Support the Program Director for DYCD QA visits and internal assessments.
• Uphold agency policies and youth development best practices.

Partnership with Children provides critical integrated student supports including counseling, school-wide services, and family and community outreach in high-poverty, New York City public schools so students can reach their full potential. Reporting to the Afterschool Site Director, Part-Time Content Specialists work closely with the Afterschool Site Director to select and manage afterschool program content in all the required content areas; oversee and support the implementation of activities delivered by the Activity Specialists, Group Leaders, and Youth Workers. They also select curricula or create lesson plans and support program staff through observation, effective supervision, coaching, training, and professional development to ensure program quality.

Responsibilities

Create project-based learning experiences in literacy, STEM, math, and other academic areas.

Ensure that activities are differentiated, inclusive, and culturally responsive.

Support staff to integrate literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning into daily activities.

Provide guidance, modeling, and support to Activity Specialists, Group Leaders, on effective instructional strategies.

Conduct classroom observations and offer constructive feedback to improve teaching quality.

Lead staff training on academic support, behavior management, lesson planning, and youth engagement.

Assist staff in designing age-appropriate learning experiences and managing small-group instruction.

Align afterschool academic supports with school-day priorities and curriculum.

Utilize student data (as permitted) to inform academic planning and interventions.

Help track student participation, academic growth, and program outcomes.

Maintain documentation such as lesson plans, assessment notes, and progress updates.

Contribute to DYCD Connect reporting by providing accurate records of academic activities.

Ensure instructional activities meet DYCD COMPASS/SONYC requirements, learning goals, and safety standards.

Support the Program Director in preparing for DYCD QA visits and internal assessments.

Uphold agency policies, program expectations, and youth development best practices.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required (Education, Childhood Education, Youth Development, English, Math, or related field); Master’s preferred.

At least one year of experience in a supervisory/oversight position, including management and development of program content, staff supervision, training, and coaching.

Experience supporting literacy or STEM instruction strongly preferred.

Knowledge of NYC DOE curriculum; familiarity with DYCD COMPASS/SONYC standards a plus.

Strong instructional, communication, and classroom management skills.

Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and adapt teaching strategies.

Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and basic data systems.

Salary and Working Hours:

$45/hour

School year Hours: Part-time – minimum of nine (9) hours per week; Programming is offered every weekday from 2pm to 6:00pm

Occasional weekend hours may be available

This position is fully in-person and does not offer any remote work.
