Job summary

Play-Well TEKnologies is seeking part-time instructors to teach LEGO-based coding and robotics to K-8 students in Santa Clarita, CA. Classes and camps will use LEGO Spike Prime to introduce programming concepts and foster creativity and problem solving.

Applicants should have a computer science background or education experience, be able to manage a classroom, and maintain safety and engagement for diverse learners. Benefits and flexible hours are provided as described.

Qualifications

• Work history varies; CS and teaching experience preferred.
• Reliable transportation and a secure location to store teaching materials are required.
• Lift up to 50 lbs to store and transport materials; bending, stooping and crawling with children during class instruction.
• Must pass all background checks as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Teach LEGO classes and camps introducing Spike Prime and basic programming concepts.
• Manage each class session to ensure safety, engagement, and enjoyment for children.
• Communicate with parents and clients in a knowledgeable, respectful manner; address questions or concerns.
• Care for and upkeep of LEGO teaching kits and materials; participate in setup and breakdown as needed.

Would you like to use a ridiculous amount of LEGO materials to teach kids the basics of coding and robotics? If so, then this may be your dream job!

At Play-Well TEKnologies we are dedicated to teaching students in grades K-8 about engineering and robotics through hands-on experience with LEGO, inquiry-based learning, and play.

We are looking for smart, creative, dynamic instructors from computer science and/or education backgrounds to teach LEGO classes and camps where students are introduced to the LEGO Spike Prime system and basic programming concepts. Students then have the opportunity to unlock their creativity and problem-solving skills through additional challenges and activities.

Schedule

• School Year: M-F afternoons, part-time, flexible, occasional weekend hours
• Summer: M-F, half-day and full-day camps, typically between 9am and 4pm, plus setup/breakdown

Compensation: Instructors are paid for all hours worked, including teaching, setup, round trip drive time, and training. Also, any day that you teach, you receive AT MINIMUM 3 hours of pay.

Qualifications

• Serves as a representative of Play-Well in a positive and professional manner.
• Completes all training programs as required by the Area Manager.
• Understands the curriculum and concepts thoroughly to be able to provide value to participants with diverse abilities and interests.
• Manages each class session, ensuring the children are safe, engaged, and having fun.
• Communicates with parents and clients in a knowledgeable, respectful and tactful manner to address questions or concerns.
• Adheres to all Play-Well and facility safety procedures and procedures for supervision and release of children.
• Care, safekeeping, and upkeep of assigned LEGO teaching kit(s).
• Responds quickly to communications from management, whether by phone, text, or email.
• Regularly communicates with Area Manager with questions, concerns and updates.
