Job summary

Yes For Chess is hiring an after-school chess instructor to lead engaging classes at elementary schools in San Bruno and surrounding areas. This is a consistent part-time, in-person role with afternoon hours and classroom responsibilities.

You will follow provided lesson plans, foster a fun, structured learning environment, and collaborate with school staff. A background check is required; reliable transportation is preferred; pay is $27–$29 per hour.

Qualifications

• Basic chess knowledge required to teach fundamentals
• Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
• Experience with teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, or childcare valued
• Able to lead a classroom independently and manage students
• Background check is required before employment

Responsibilities

• Teach engaging after-school chess classes to elementary students
• Follow provided lesson plans and instructional materials
• Create a fun, encouraging, and structured classroom environment
• Help students learn chess fundamentals while building confidence
• Build positive relationships with students, school staff, and families
• Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to lead each class
• Maintain a safe and positive learning environment
• Communicate professionally with Yes For Chess team
• Occasionally cover additional nearby schools when needed
