Job summary

Yes For Chess is hiring a Chess Instructor to lead after-school classes in San Bruno, CA for elementary students. This part-time, in-person role emphasizes a fun, structured learning environment and reliable classroom leadership.

You’ll follow provided lesson plans, travel to assigned schools, and teach up to four afternoons weekly, with classes typically from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM and about 90 minutes per session.

Qualifications

• Basic chess knowledge required.
• Background check required before employment.
• Experience in teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, youth programs, or childcare is valued.
• Reliable transportation preferred.
• Able to commit to afternoon teaching assignments.
• Willing to travel between nearby schools as needed.

Responsibilities

• Teach engaging after-school chess classes to elementary students.
• Follow provided lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Create a fun, encouraging, and structured classroom environment.
• Help students learn chess fundamentals while developing confidence and problem-solving skills.
• Build positive relationships with students, school staff, and families.
• Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to lead each class.
• Maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Communicate professionally with the Yes For Chess team.
• Occasionally provide coverage at nearby schools when needed.
