Job summary

Great Hearts Academies seeks an After-School Program Assistant to supervise students and support activities in the after-school program, under a Lead Teacher or qualifying staff member. This part-time, seasonal role runs Monday–Friday, with 15–20 hours per week and supervision of up to 20 students.

The ideal candidate is 17+ with a high school diploma/equivalent; First aid/CPR is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma/equivalent or be enrolled in high school/equivalent.
• First aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.
• Experience or ability to supervise and guide students in a classroom setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise up to 20 students in a classroom setting under supervision of qualified staff.
• Facilitate homework, recess, and other activities.
• Present lessons from provided classical curriculum.
• Utilize appropriate child guidance and classroom management strategies.
• Model Great Hearts 9 Core Virtues: responsibility, perseverance, integrity, honesty, courage, citizenship, humility, friendship, wisdom.
• Follow procedures to ensure high quality programs and AZDHS compliance.
• Document student behavior and incidents; escalate as needed.
• Substitute at another campus when required.

Compensation Amount: $15.50-16.50/hour

Position Summary:

Co-Curricular Program Assistants facilitate activities and supervise students in the after-school program under the supervision of a Lead Teacher or other qualifying staff member. This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring educators or for those who love working with children. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt, non-benefited position. After-school programs are open Monday-Friday from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. (earlier start on early release days). Approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise up to 20 students in a classroom setting under the supervision of a qualified staff member per AZDHS.
• Facilitate homework, recess, and other activities.
• Present lessons from provided classical curriculum.
• Utilize appropriate child guidance and classroom management strategies.
• Model and instill Great Hearts 9 Core Virtues (responsibility, perseverance, integrity, honesty, courage, citizenship, humility, friendship, wisdom).
• Follow standard operating procedures to ensure high quality programs.
• Follow all licensing rules and regulations per AZDHS.
• Follow protocols for responding to and documenting student behavior and significant events.
• Escalate incident reports and significant events to supervisor.
• Substitute at another campus when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required/Preferred Education:

Some experience or college preferred but not required. Must be at least 17 years of age and have a high school diploma/equivalent or currently enrolled in high school/equivalent. First aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.

Required/Preferred Skills:

The successful candidate will be a principled, professional leader with an independent work ethic and a heart of service to others. They must demonstrate sound business judgment and wisdom in dealing with people. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Functions:

Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. Running, jumping and other rapid movements may also be required. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
