Responsibilities

About the role

The Assistant Coordinator, After School, owns the day-to-day performance of an assigned set of sites. This role carries final responsibility for site compliance, staffing, and the family and school relationships that keep a site running well. Assistant Coordinators are regularly in the field, coaching leadership teams and resolving issues directly rather than routing them elsewhere.

What we look for

• 30 college semester hours with six (6) of the hours in child-related courses; or 12 months of experience with 6 college semester hours in child-related courses; or a CDA credential
• A minimum of one year of work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization, planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, is preferred
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
• Demonstrated organizational, staff, and project management abilities
• General computer skills for entering data into member management systems and reporting
• Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications (Kidventure will provide this training as needed)

Qualifications: Key responsibilities

Site relationships and communication

• Maintain ongoing communication with site contacts and families
• Resolve communications, grievances, or concerns within 24 hours
• Lead conflict resolution and team building at the site level

Staffing and leadership

• Oversee staffing, staff morale, and staff attendance
• Train staff and ensure regular professional development is conducted
• Coach, guide, and mentor site leadership teams
• Ensure counselor-to-camper ratios are maintained at all times

Compliance and standards

• Own site minimum standards compliance; Assistant Coordinators are ultimately responsible for site compliance
• Monitor and maintain adherence to Kidventure policy and procedure
• Hold current CPR and First Aid certification, state-approved Sexual Abuse Prevention certification, and pass an annual criminal background check

Program oversight

• Conduct regular site visits and follow up on site issues until fully resolved
• Answer phones, handle customer service, and assist families with registration
• Ensure every site has what it needs to run: staff, supplies, and materials alike
• Monitor and approve supply requests
• Make budget-conscious decisions in day-to-day site operations

Growth

• Establish and build up new locations as Kidventure expands

Additional program support

• Take on additional responsibilities, projects, and operational needs as they arise to ensure the After School program runs smoothly, safely, efficiently, and consistently across all Houston sites
• Step in to support sites, staff, Coordinators, or office operations when unexpected needs arise
• Help identify operational gaps and proactively work toward solutions rather than waiting for issues to escal
• Maintain flexibility as program priorities shift throughout the school year and support the overall success of the Houston After School program

What we look for in a candidate

• Experience leading youth programs, school-based operations, or a multi-site team
• Comfortable spending the majority of the week on-site, coaching staff and leadership teams directly
• Sound judgment under time pressure, particularly when resolving family or staff concerns within 24 hours
• Strong written and verbal communication with families, staff, and school partners
• Willingness to hold the final word on site compliance and represent Kidventure's standards without exception.
