Job summary

Communities In Schools After School Program in Jacksonville, FL seeks a part-time Academic Teacher to support high-risk students with tutoring in language, reading, math and science.

The role includes preparing lesson plans, supervising students, and coordinating with the lead teacher and parents. Requires a Bachelor's and state teaching certification; background checks and 45-hour DCFS training within first year are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
• At least two years' experience working in educational programs with youth.
• Valid state Certified teacher required.
• First aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment.
• DCF 45 hour initial training must be completed within first year.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Background screening on local, state and federal level may be required.
• Safety-sensitive position per policy.

Responsibilities

• Implements the academic component and completes lesson plans.
• Supervises the children and engages them in activities.
• Understands program objectives and design.
• Facilitates Project Based Learning activities as outlined in the grant.
• Keeps and checks attendance at transitions.
• Submits weekly lesson plans to Site Coordinator/Lead Teacher.
• Develops academic plans in a fun, interactive format.
• Requests needed materials for lessons.
• Creates a positive, productive after-school environment.
• Encourages study groups and peer tutoring.
• Attends staff meetings and reviews communications.
• Completes required trainings and signs in/out daily.
• Coordinates with site staff and parents as needed.
