Job summary

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine (AUCVM) is seeking a veterinary student to serve as the after-hours OR circulator in the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital. The student will set up the OR, assist in aseptic prep, and help with positioning while on call for emergency cases.

Responsibilities include signing up for on-call shifts, gowning/gloving, maintaining charge sheets, and cleaning the OR after surgery.

Qualifications

Must be a current Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine student (AUCVM).
Some surgical or emergency experience is desirable.
GPA of 2.5 or above required for eligibility.

Responsibilities

Sign up for on-call shifts for weeknights, weekends, and holidays for after-hours cases.
Set up operating room after hours using aseptic technique.
Assist with patient positioning and aseptic prep.
Gown and glove in surgeons, house officers, and students.
Perform initial OR checklist with surgeon to confirm patient id and procedure.
Open instrument packs and supplies using aseptic technique.
Retrieve items from sterile supply as needed during surgery.
Maintain patient charge sheets and case records.
Clean and decontaminate OR, equipment, and instruments after surgery.
Prepare OR and emergency supplies for the next case.
