Hawarden Regional Healthcare is seeking a Per Diem front desk/registration Specialist to manage patient scheduling, registration, and related administrative duties in a busy hospital setting. You will answer calls, assist with admissions, explain consents and insurance forms, collect payments, and coordinate with care teams to ensure smooth patient flow in emergency and ambulatory services.

Position Type: Per Diem

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, performs computerized patient scheduling and registration. Performs a multiple of assignments at the registration desk, which include, but are not limited to: registration and admission processes, telephone answering and other communication facilitation. Assist with the flow of activities providing for a timely and efficient movement of patients through the emergency and ambulatory systems by coordinating the appropriate diagnostic testing and results, communication and scheduling. This position also adheres to the mission and values and standards of excellence of Hawarden Regional Healthcare in all aspects of job performance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
  1. 1. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission.
  2. 2. Responsible for Master Patient Index information ensuring that received information is correct and accurately put into Electronic Health Record.
  3. 3. Answers hospital switchboard appropriately and efficiently assuring the transmission of communication and relevant information to personnel.
  4. 4. Ensures that the patient or guardian understands and signs the appropriate consents & insurance forms.
  5. 5. Escorts patients to appropriate services, monitoring waiting rooms.
  6. 6. Is responsible for collecting payment and/or co-pays for the appropriate services.
  7. 7. Serves as an advocate for patient and families.
  8. 8. Uses effective communication principles to coordinate care with other health care providers.
  9. 9. Recognizes and communicates issues & occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, & assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.
  10. 10. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.).
  11. 11. Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, providers, employees and HRH business.
  12. 12. Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration.
  13. 13. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must successfully pass pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.

Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of this job description, including frequent walking, bending, sitting, standing and occasional lifting over 25 pounds. Knowledge of body mechanics necessary.

Able to function effectively under stressful situations.

Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, such as infectious disease.

Regular and physical attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
